Moolarben plans mine water discharge
Help save The Drip again!!
Moolarben Coal Operations (MCO – MOD 14) is proposing to increase their mine water discharge license to 20 million litres a day (~11 tonnes salt) into the Goulburn River upstream from The Drip, affecting water quality in the Goulburn River National Park.
Mine groundwater modelling in the Ulan area has invariably underestimated inflows into the underground coal mines producing ever increasing volumes of contaminated mine water.
If approved MCOs proposed increase in mine water discharge into the River will degrade water quality and cause additional ecological stress to the Goulburn & Hunter River system.
There needs to be greater scrutiny and an independent study on the cumulative impacts of de-watering the landscape at the headwaters of the Goulburn River and disposal of mine water downstream.
